Matthew Hatton 38-4-2 (15) looked a shade unfortunate to only get a draw in his bout with Lovermore N’Dou for the IBO welterweight strap last year. However being the brother of Ricky does have some benefits.
Using their quite large promotional clout, Hatton Promotions today announced in conjunction with OPI 2000 that Matthew Hatton will take on 39 year old Italian veteran Gianluca Branco 43-2-1 (22) for the vacant European welterweight title. Branco won the European light welterweight title with a very close win over Colin Lynes in May 2008 and after 1 defence has moved up in weight. His last loss was a respectable 8th round stoppage loss to Miguel Cotto back in 2006.
Sky Sports will show the bout in the UK and Dahlia TV will pick up the coverage in Italy. The venue will be the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, Essex.
