Povetkin (left) had far too much for Mora (right)

Alexander Povetkin 19-0 (14) carried on his march towards a title shot with an easy 5th round stoppage over the overmatched Javier Mora 28-6 (18) at the Max Schmelling Halle, Berlin, Germany.

Mora was down three times in the fight including a trip to the canvas in the first round. A Povetkin combination again dropped Mora in the second although he gamely got to his feet. Povetkin put on the pressure for the remainder of the round but couldn’t finish things. Povetkin seemed to relax a bit in the next couple of rounds and looked to box more as an increasingly puffy looking Mora started to tire from the punishment. Towards the end of the fourth, Povetkin landed some nice punches inside. It was all over in the fifth as Povetkin increased the pressure and after a third knockdown in the fight, the referee called a halt to the preceedings.

Pulev (left) looked sharp against Batchelder (right).

Unbeaten prospect at heavyweight Kubrat Pulev 7-0 (5) once again impressed against a decent level of opposition considering Pulev’s short pro career so far. American Danny Batchelder 25-8-1 (12) took James Toney the distance but was stopped in only 2 rounds by Pulev.

Cuban cruiserweight Yoan Pablo Hernandez 21-1 (11) took a 12 round decision over Cesar Krenz in a 12 round fight. Not one judge scored a round for Krenz and the scorecards read 120-108 all round.

Touted cruiserweight Alexander Frenkel 22-0 (17) also took home a unanimous decision over the tough Michael Simms 21-13-2 (13). Although Frenkel won clearly it was apparent from Simms’ record that it would go the distance. Simms has been in very tough and has never been stopped despite sharing a ring with Marco Huck, Troy Ross, Matt Godfrey, Ola Afolabi, Kelvin Davies and other top cruiserweights.
