Arthur Abraham tasted defeat for the first time tonight when after being dominated by Andre Dirrell for 10 rounds he hit Dirrell while he was down and was disqualified. The blow knocked Dirrell out cold and in the post fight interview it seemed he wasn’t at all sure as to what had just happened and if he won the fight.
Dirrell’s hand speed was a big problem for Abraham who threw sparingly in the first few rounds befuddled by Dirrell’s movement and blinding speed. Dirrell also regularly switched from southpaw to orthodox which seemed to confuse Abraham even more. When Abraham became frustrated in the 4th round charging at Dirrell swinging wildly he was caught with a left hand while out of position and landed flat on his back. Direll jumped on him but Abraham whether the storm and made it out of the round relatively unshaken.
In the 7th round Abraham suffered a cut above his right eye possibly from a punch although it could also have been from a clash of heads. At the time of the stoppage one judge had it 98-91 and the other two were 97-92 all for Andre Dirrell who would’ve surely have gone on to win the fight on points although Abraham was getting to Dirrell in the 9th and 10th but whether he could’ve stopped him late which he had to do to win we’ll unfortunately never know.
A bitter-sweet moment for Dirrell as he boxed well and deserved to win but it came at a grave cost. The shot he took from Abraham while he slipped in the corner and was down on his knees had him fall down and begin to shake. We can only hope that he didn’t suffer too much damage.
In his post fight interview Abraham called Dirrell a good actor and adamantly claimed that he didn’t do anything wrong, he goes up against the UK’s Carl Froch in his next fight.
The Super Six becomes more interesting the more fights we see and hopefully Dirrell we be able to continue in the tournament he was able to pull off the upset and earns a crucial 2 points going into the next round.

Dirrell’s hand speed was the x factor you’re right. He’s a very good boxer. I hope he’s okay after that ending though :/
