WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa 18-0 (15) succesfully defended his title on Saturday in Hamburg, Germany with a tenth round stoppage of Jonathan Victor Barros in a tough, exciting bout. After the fight FightFranchise’s Mehmet Pierre Storsberg caught up with Gamboa to ask him a few questions.

1.) Congratulations on your victory tonight. Please a little statement on this.
“I think I fought a good fight against a strong opponent. I am happy with my win. It was a great feeling to fight in Hamburg again where so many people still remember me.”

2.) After a short pause of only 2 monthssince  your last fight against Mtagwa, now comes the well-deserved holiday. How long will it be?
“I heard that my next fight is set for July but I leave that part to my promoter Ahmet Öner. I could fight every other week if I was asked to.”

3.) Has your Promoter Ahmed Öner said anything about whether a clash between you and Juan Manuel Lopez is possible?
“There is a lot of talk about that. We will see. I think they are trying to build up some more tension for that fight, but after all I don’t care who I am fighting and beating. I am the best boxer in the world today and I am ready to prove that in every single fight.”

4.) On May 1st there is the clash between Mosley and Mayweather. The rumor going around is that the winner of this fight will be the next and last opponent for Manny Pacquiao, because Pacman is going into politics. If this is true, does he have the right to be the P4P champ without fighting with you? You mentioned in a previous interview that you would like to face Pacquiao in the future.
“I don’t care much about other fighters. Of course, I would be happy to fight Pacquiao but at the moment that seems to be out of discussion. Whoever comes my way and stands between me and my goal to be the best boxer in the world gets blown away. It’s as simple as that.”

5.) In which division is a Ffight between you and the Pacman possible?
“I don’t want to speculate on that. I am a fighter. I step into the ring to do my job whenever, wherever and in what divison ever I am asked to.”

6.) You are the undisputed champ in the featherweight division. When and if do you think you will step up to the next division? Maybe if you successfully beat Juan Manuel Lopez or Chris John?
“First of all I want to clear out this division. I still have more than enough time to step up in weight and win some more world titles.”

7.) Are you a religious man, do you believe in God?
“I believe in a special force that guides us, I believe in God and – most importantly – I believe in my own strength.”

8.) What do you think about the nickname “Lucky Luke” for you? Lucky Luke shoots faster than his own shadow and you punch faster yours. Is this a gift from the Lord or is there a lot of hard training behind your unbelievable quickness?
“I am pretty happy with my nickname ‘El Ciclon’ but thank you. Of course, I train hard on my explosiveness, speed, power and accuracy. Still, I would say it is also a special gift of mine and I am thankful for that.”

9.) When will we see you back in Germany?
“Whenever the Germany are willing to pay my purse I’ll be more than happy to fight here in front of my German fans and friends. It has been great to be back in Hamburg.”

10.) Have you any final message for your fans from Fight Franchise?
“Greetings to everybody and thank you for supporting me.”
