Arthur Abraham’s promoters will officially protest his loss against Andre Dirrell according to the German newspaper Build.
Abraham was disqualified in the eleventh round of their bout after Dirrell slipped in the corner and was on his knees when a punch from Abraham knocked Dirrell out. Dirrell who had been winning the fight before the knockdown happened seemed confused as to the outcome when interviewed after the fight.
Sauerland Event, Abraham’s promoters, filled a protest to the WBC and feel that there are a few things wrong with the decision other than the incident in the eleventh round itself.
One of the first points brought up was that the referee Lawrence Cole failed to call a knockdown for Abraham in the tenth round when he landed a right hand sending Dirrell to the canvas which was ruled as a slip. The second was that the referee didn’t take points from Dirrell for low blows and the final point was the referees failure to call break and separate the fighters in the eleventh round which would’ve avoided the punch and the DQ result.
The fight, which took place on March 27th at the Joe Louis arena in Detroit, was apart of the second round stage of the Super Six tournament. The tournament features Andre Ward, Mikkel Kessler, Carl Froch, Arthur Abraham, Andre Dirrell and Allan Green who was chosen to replace Jermain Taylor after he pulled out of the tournament.
The next fights to take place in the second round of the Super Six are Mikkel Kessler v Carl Froch and Allan Green v Andre Ward.
