Huck lands here but misses a lot

A clear yet still hard-fought victory for Käpt’n Huck!

In a hard yet unspectacular fight, more of a wild fight with plenty of wild swings from Marco Huck, Brian Minto, 34-4 (21) was clearly the inferior man as Huck successfully defended his WBO title in this battle tonight at the Weser-Ems-Halle in Oldenburg, Germany.

Minto was put to the floor in rounds 3, 5 and finally the 9th. However, Minto did not surrender and pursued his opponent stubbornly, admittedly without great success. He was simply too open and slow and also physically inferior to Käpt’n Huck.

Huck, now 29-1 (22), didn’t quite look ready for bigger things however, as he simply didn’t box intelligently enough. He is too game and impatient, and missed many of his blows. Marco was punching air a lot and Minto didn’t leave himself open much, which speaks for the class of this opponent.

For nine rounds the KO didn’t come but during that round, having been knocked down for the third time, Minto was forced to surrender and pulled out of the fight.

Before the big fights with Haye or the Klitschko’s are possible, Huck must prove himself first of all against men like Herbie Hide or Steve Cunningham, who deserve title shots, because performances such as this one are not exactly proof that Huck can succeed against the elite of the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions.

With patience and sovereignty Marco Huck defeated good fighters in Victor Emilio Ramirez and Ola Afolabi. Marco must fall back on these attributes in his future fights and not try so much to force a KO. Against high-class fighters performances like that will surely cost him.
