It seems like two unbeaten but largely untested prospects will be competing for the vacant WBO middleweight title that the WBO stripped from Sergio Martinez.
Danny “Golden Child” Jacobs 20-0 (17) will be taking on Dmitry Pirog 16-0 (13). The venue seems to be the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and the date will be July 31st.
Jacobs who is a hot prospect on behalf of Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions has been groomed for the top ever since he started his professional career and will enter the bout as a big favourite.
However Dmitry Pirog is a decent fighter without any doubt. Although he has not faced any major opposition, he has not struggled at all with anybody put in front of him as yet.
Jacobs was talking to ESPN.com today and said the following: “I feel blessed. A lot of people in my position, coming where I come from (Brooklyn) , to get an opportunity like this is one in a million. I feel like I am ready for a world championship fight. I don’t think there are too many threats out there. I think if I get this world championship come July 31, I think we’ll have more improvements to do, like getting experience and such. But if anyone has an opportunity to get a world title I don’t think anyone would decline “.
Jacobs- Pirog will be on the undercard to the rematch between Juan Manuel Marquez and Juan Diaz, whose first fight was a classic.
