Timur Ibragimov too good for Singh

Timur Ibragimov too good for Singh

Gurcharan Singh 20-1 (11) is a boxing rarity. A heavyweight prospect from India. After starting his professional career at around 200lbs, he has needlessly put on 20lbs of weight and last night faced his toughest test.

In the opposing corner stood tough Timur Ibragimov 29-2-1 (16) and unfortunately the big man from Uzbekistan was simply too good for the Indian.

The bout, for the main part was quite a dull affair with frequent clinching between the two. However Singh seemed to freeze on his big night and did much less work than Ibragimov. Singh did show a decent jab but that was about it.

As the fight progressed Ibragimov started to wear down the naturally smaller opponent and eventually in ninth round, Singh was hurt and then dropped by right handers. It was all over in the next and final round. Singh was hurt and then dropped by another right hand. Although he bravely rose, the referee rightfully stopped the fight.

Ibragimov is now a little bit nearer to being back in the mix and is now the holder of the WBO inter-continental title. Singh should probably drop 20lbs and compete  in the cruiserweight division.
