Antonio Margarito (or Maracheato as he known on message boards across the globe) has been granted his boxing license to fight in Texas after he was denied in California. Now it looks as though he will fight Manny Pacquiao at the Cowboys stadium where Pacquiao fought Josh Clottey in what has been a controversial topic in the boxing world since his comeback to the sport.
Margarito was caught red-handed (no pun intended) when upon inspection by Shane Mosley’s esteemed trainer Nazim Richardson he was found to have illegal inserts in his knuckle pads before their fight on January 24th 2009.
His licensed was suspended by the California State Athletic Commission and he escaped a permanent ban from the sport simply because they couldn’t prove that Margarito himself knew about the illegal hand wraps.
Now one fight later and he is challenging for the vacant WBC 154 lb title simply because he is promoted by Bob Arum this seems highly unfair and has caused an uproar among fans and journalists that believe that Margarito shouldn’t be allowed to fight ever again never mind getting a huge payday for fighting the top fighter in the sport besides Floyd Mayweather.
While I will no doubt watch the fight because it’s Manny Pacquiao he is fighting I think this whole thing is a sham and am quite frankly digusted that this is even taking place.Boxing is suffering a decline right now in credibility and this only gives ammunition to people who say the sport of boxing is not what it used to be.
Upon his reinstatment Margarito issued this statement:
“I want to thank the state of Texas for granting me a boxing license which enables me to continue my passion for the sport of boxing in the United States.
On November 13, this great opportunity will be fulfilled when I battle Manny Pacquiao.”
