Sebastian Sylvester earned a twelve round unanimous decision over challenger Mahir Oral in dominating fashion on Saturday. Sylvester knocked Oral down in rounds eight, nine, and eleven to easily sweep the judges scorecards. The final tallies read: 117-107, 119-106, and 117-107 from the three judges at ringside. This was Sylvester’s third defense of the title he earned by defeating Giovanni Lorenzo a year ago. His last bout was a draw with Roman Karmazin which allowed “The Hurrikan” Sylvester to keep his belt, but wasn’t satisfying to the champ. Against Oral he was in fine form, though, winning every round and knocking Mahir from pillar to post.
Sylvester now improves to 34-3-1 with 16 knockouts to his credit. Mahir is 28-3-2. Things didn’t start out all that smoothly for Sebastian when he was cut over the right eye in round two from an Oral headbutt. But that was about all the offense Oral was able to mount. Sebastian used perfect combinations working the body heavily and following up with hooks to the jaw that dropped Mahir three times in the fight, but Oral did manage to hang on till the final bell.
Also on the card, unbeaten Kubrat Pulev (9-0) earned his own decision victory over heavyweight journeyman Dominick Guinn (33-7-1). Guinn provided a decent challenge early but Pulev had the greater stamina and outworked his man just enough to take most of the rounds. Final scores read 80-72, 80-72, and 79-73 all in Pulev’s favor.
Female welterweight champ Cecilia Braekhus (15-0) earned her third KO as well, beating Mikaela Lauren in the 7th round to retain her WBC, WBA, and WBO unified titles.
