Due mainly to the darts World championship, Sky Sports bring their boxing show forwards to Wednesday this week and the last UK sky live show of 2010 is a double header with two British titles on the line and takes place at the Kings Hall in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

All action British featherweight champion Martin Lindsay

All action British featherweight champion Martin Lindsay

The unbeaten Martin Lindsay 17-0 (6) defends his British featherweight title on home ground against the clever John Simpson 21-7 (9) in the main event.  Lindsay won the title in April 2009 at the Kings Hall when he stopped defending champion Paul Appleby in six rounds. He has since beaten Alfred Tetteh and Yauheni Kruhlik in non title bouts and defended the British title by widely outpointing Jamie Arthur.

Lindsay is now twenty eight years old and will be wanting to push on with his career towards European honours and above in 2011. Although only having seventeen fights, good men like Derry Matthews and Marc Callaghan were also beaten before Lindsay won the British title.

Simpson is probably better than his seven defeats suggest and has never been stopped. He has held this British featherweight title in the past and defended it once before losing it on a very close decision to Paul Appleby in Scotland.

Simpson won the Commonwealth title in 2009 when surprisingly beating the then unbeaten Paul Truscott before repeating the trick eight  months later. Last time out (in September) he looked unlucky to me when dropping the Commonwealth title to Stephen Smith on a split decision.

Simpson has been outpointed by Appleby, Smith, Derry Matthews, Stephen Foster, Andy Morris and Dazzo Williams as well as a loss in his second pro fight. The problem seems to be for Morris is that most of his defeats have come on away territory as will tomorrow’s fight.

For that reason, I am tipping Lindsay to win tomorrow and retain his crown. When he beat Appleby to take the crown, the crowd were at fever pitch and roared him on with an amazing atmosphere. Simpson is more than capable of beating Lindsay but I just cant see him doing it in the cauldron of hostility that will  be the Kings Hall.

British flyweight champion Shinny Bayaar

British flyweight champion Shinny Bayaar

Shinny Bayaar 15-4-2 (4) is also defending his British flyweight title on the card against unbeaten Paul Edwards 7-0 (1).

Bayaar is now thirty three but is fighting as well as he ever has. He is unbeaten since 2004 and better than given credit for. Last time out, the script was that Bayaar would lose his title to the young and touted Ashley Sexton but Bayaar fought very hard and in the end was unlucky to only get a draw, although this was enough to keep his title.

However Bayaar did seem to fade late and that could be of massive interest to Edwards.

Edwards has only had seven pro fights and although there are not a huge amount of flyweights in the UK, he is still very inexperienced. The only real name opponent on his record is that of Andy Bell, whom Edwards narrowly outpointed over six rounds in February.

I do not know much about Edwards but I know plenty about Bayaar and I feel he will just have a bit too much of everything and retain his title.
