Former World light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek 40-1 (27) continued on his run to win a World championship in three weight divisions by out pointing tough American Jason Estrada 16-3 (4) in New Jersey.

Adamek looked in good shape at 220lb and generally had the edge on Estrada who fought harder than he did when losing to fellow prospect Alexander Povetkin.

Adamek was being roared on by the crowd during the entire fight, with Estrada probably thinking he was fighting in Poland. Estrada came out hard and fast and surprised Adamek in the early rounds. Adamek for his part did what he normally did, popping in and out with punches before circling awkwardly away.

Adamek showed good stamina but it was a little alarming to see how easy he was to hit by Estrada. Luckily for Adamek, Estrada cannot really punch.

At the end of 12 rounds it seemed to me as if Adamek had just edged the fight. One judge had it about right at 115-113 Adamek, the second judge saw it 116-112 and the third judge must have some Polish blood in him as he saw it a way too wide 118-110.

At the end of the bout, Adamek praised Estrada and said that was the best Estrada had ever fought while Estrada claimed he was absolutely robbed and wanted a rematch. Unfortunately for Estrada that is unlikely to happen and he is likely to be out in the cold in regards to big match ups.

Adamek for his part is looking towards a big match up with heavy handed Chris Arreola. Arreola can be crude but I feel he will have Adamek’s number.

Adamek was an excellent light heavyweight and cruiserweight and is a solid contender at heavy but he doesn’t do anything brilliantly. He has not got an amazing stamina, or particularly clever skills or a big punch but his heart will ensure he will be competitive against most of the top guys.
