If you thought HBO would broadcast the fight for the American audience think again you will have to sit in front of your laptop and watch it on ESPN3 live or simply wait till the following day to catch in on their main channel. Props to ESPN for picking up this important heavyweight bout for the American boxing fans.

Tyson fury returns tomorrow night against Rich Power

Tyson Fury looking to wow America

Tyson Fury looking to wow America

Big, brash but never dull Tyson Fury 11-0 (9) returns to action tomorrow night and will make his debut on the Showtime US tv channel for the first time when he fights brilliantly named Rich “Super” Power 12-0 (9) at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London.

Fury who fought well last time out to stop John McDermott in their rematch is of course as confident as usual that he will win and that he will impress the watching American audience.

Power, though is also confident having remained unbeaten since turning professional. However this will be the first time that Power will have fought outside his native Michigan, USA. He seems quite a big man but will still be dwarfed by the huge Fury. Also Fury will probably weigh in at around 265lbs in comparison to Power’s 225lbs.

John O’Donnell faces test in Cauthen

John O'Donnell hoping to gatecrash World class

John O'Donnell hoping to gatecrash World class

John O’Donnell 23-1 (11) will be hoping to impress the American tv boxing audience on Friday when he takes on veteran Terrance “The Heat” Cauthen 35-6 (9) in front of the showtime tv cameras on Friday night at the York Hall.

It is the biggest name test of O’Donnell’s career so far. O’Donnell has been heavily hyped from the offset of his professional career by his promotional team but has not quite lived up to the billing. After a fifteen fight unbeaten start to his career, he was shockingly blown away in two rounds by Christian Solano at the MGM Grand back in 2007 which caused him to re evaluate.

Felix Sturm returns after long layoff

Saturday night at the Lanxess-Arena in Cologne, Germany, two-time WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm (33-2-1, 14KO’s) will attempt to make the eighth defence of his current reign against New York based Dominican Giovanni Lorenzo (29-2, 21KO’s), and as Sturm has said himself, it’s a fight he expects to win.

After fourteen months out of the ring due to a legal wrangle with former promoters Universum, Sturm has finally severed all ties with his former employees, freeing the way for him to fight again.

Fighting now under his own promotional banner, in partnership with Arena Boxing, Sturm is ready to prove once again why he is one of the dominant forces in the middleweight division.

Tomasz Adamek-Michael Grant preview. Can Adamek topple the giant?

Tomasz Adamek takes on Michael Grant

Tomasz Adamek takes on Michael Grant

The former World light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek 41-1 (27) faces a giant of a man in former World heavyweight challenger Michael Grant 46-3 (34) tomorrow night in New Jersey, USA.

Adamek has had a superb career. WBC light heavyweight champion from 2005-2007 until he suffered his sole loss to Chad Dawson, he then elected to move to cruiserweight where after several wins he outpointed the excellent Steve Cunningham to win the IBF cruiserweight belt. After two defences, he made the surprising decision to campaign in the heavyweight division.

Marco Huck-Matt Godfrey. WBO cruiserweight title preview

Can Matt Godfrey(left) upset champion Marco Huck (right)?

Can Matt Godfrey(left) upset champion Marco Huck (right)?

Marco “Kapt’n” Huck 29-1 (22) makes the fourth defence of his WBO cruiserweight title on Saturday night when he takes on American contender Matt “Too Smooth” Godfrey 20-1 (10) at the Messehalle in Thüringen, Germany.

The fight is a special occasion for Huck and Sauerland Promotions who represent Huck as it is Sauerland’s one hundredth show on mainstream German tv channel ARD. There are also rumours of a cruiserweight version of the “Super Six” series so it is massive for the winner.

I like Huck as a fighter. He came back from a World title loss in 2007 to Steve Cunningham and has rebounded superbly. Unlike many modern day champions he is an active fighter and Saturday’s fight will be his fifth within twelve months. He has been around for a few years but is still only twenty five years old.

Pascal-Dawson. Who is the number one at light heavyweight?

Chad Dawson (left) takes on Jean Pascal (right)

Chad Dawson (left) takes on Jean Pascal (right)

On Saturday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada we should see who will be generally regarded as the best fighter in the light heavyweight division as Jean Pascal 25-1 (16) defends his WBC championship against Chad Dawson 29-0 (17).

Although Tavoris Cloud may disagree with the above statement, the winner will be the number one in most boxing fans opinions.

Pascal has huge advantage by being in home territory. The quick fighter will be fighting at the Bell Centre for the fourth fight running. Touted as a fighter in the mould of Roy Jones, he has evolved into a fighter who can box and brawl. His first title fight was a losing one, to Carl Froch in December 2008 for the vacant WBC super middleweight title. It was an excellent fight with both men giving and taking punishment before Froch got the deserved decision.

Chris Arreola takes on Manuel Quezada

On Friday August 13th from the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California, Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (28-2, 25 KOs) will take on Manuel “El Toro” Quezada (29-5, 18 KOs) in this weeks “Friday Night Fights” main event. Both Latino Heavyweights are looking to get back on the winning track as they both under performed in they’re last outing coming away with decision losses.

Arreola was last seen square up against Cruiserweight turned Heavyweight Tomasz Adamek in a very entertaining back and forth fight from the same arena ESPN will be broadcasting on Friday night. On paper the bout looked even with an edge leaning towards the stronger Arreola, but due to his lack of weight discipline and a broken right hand the more mobile and counter punching Adamek earned a Majority Decision. That result tallied up Arreola’s record over the last three fights to just 1 – 2, after starting his promising career with an impressive record of 27-0 with 24 KOs. In order to avoid becoming a Heavyweight doormat for future Heavyweight contenders Arreola has to get serious about his career starting with an impressive win against “El Toro” Quezada.

Devon Alexander defends against Andriy Kotelnik

On Saturday August 7th Don King Productions will present the potentially explosive card “Gateway to Greatness” from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Where Hometown hero Devon Alexander “The Great” (20-0, 13 KOs) will defend his title against former super lightweight champion Andriy “Kotelya” Kotelnik (31-3-1, 13 KOs), from Lviv, Ukraine, In the Co-main event IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud (20-0, 18 KOs), from Tallahassee, Fla., will face 2004 Fighter of the Year Glen “Road Warrior” Johnson (50-13-2, 34 KOs) form Clarendon, Jamaica. Also on the un-televised portion of the card St. Louis King Cory “Next Generation” Spinks (37-5, 11 KOs) defends his light middleweight title against former “Contender” Cornelius “K9″ Bundrage (29-4, 17 KOs) in a 12 round fight.

Tavoris Cloud-Glen Johnson – My main event bout of the weekend

On Saturday night, in Saint Louis, Missouri there are three World title bouts on the card. While Devon Alexander vs. Andriy Kotelnik is the main event and home fighter Cory Spinks is fighting for the World title, it is the fascinating clash between Tavoris Cloud and the “Road Warrior” Glen Johnson for the IBF light heavyweight crown that has really caught my attention.

Tavoris Cloud has not fought for a year

Tavoris Cloud has not fought for a year

Tavoris Cloud 20-0 (18) has an awful lot going for him. After a quite successful amateur career, he soon got a local reputation for big punching along with decent boxing skills. After eighteen wins, he dominated the veteran Julio Cesar Gonzalez in an IBF title eliminator before stopping his man in ten. This got Cloud a World title shot against veteran Englishman Clinton Woods.

The Rematch: Juan Manuel Marquez vs Juan Diaz II

On July 31st from the Mandalay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez (50 – 5 – 1 37 KO’s) will face Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz (35 – 3 17 KO’s) in a rematch of their classic fight from 2009. Marquez vs. Diaz II “Fight of the Year: The Rematch” is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Marquez Boxing Promotions which features a rarely seen stacked undercard with fights like: Daniel Jacobs vs Dimitry Pirog, Robert Guerrero vs Joel Casamayor and Jorge Linares vs Rocky Juarez.

After their first encounter both Marquez and Diaz have had a not so stellar run as both fighters are coming off loses. They both desperately need a win to stay relevant at the elite level and a devastating loss may convince them to hang them up. It’s that do or die storyline that makes this match up a must watch for any boxing fan.
