Since the mega fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather got called off criticism has
been hurled at Floyd Mayweather Jr left, right and center. Rather than blaming both
fighters for the fight falling through it appears that Mayweather is taking the brunt
of it from the critics.
Maybe it's because people think Floyd needs to fight Manny to secure his legacy or that his dominance in the sport needs to come under questioning due to the lack of top welterweight opponents he has faced since he moved up in weight.
Well now maybe just maybe some of that criticism will be put to rest as it has been reported by Yahoo Sport's Kevin Iole that a fight between current WBA welterweight champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr will be taking place on the 1st of May at the MGM Grand with the official announcement of the fight to come within the next few days.
This is good news for fight fans who have not been afraid to voice thier opinions on Mayweather's choice of opponents in the last few years one of those being underground rapper RA the Rugged Man who engaged in a verbal slugging match with "Money" Mayweather himself on the internet radio show Shade45 last October.
I for one am excited about Mayweather deciding to fight Mosley as the reports that were circulating as to some of the other possible fights on the table were names ranging from Paulie Malignaggi and Nate Campbell all the way down to Matthew Hatton.
Now Mayweather is putting his "Money" where his mouth is and is taking a risky fight with perhaps the best welterweight out there right now. As Mosley showed in his last outing with Margarito even at 38 his speed and power are still exceptional and will create problems for any fighter even someone as good as Mayweather.
Mosley was scheduled to fight rising star Andre Berto on the 30th of this month however due to the tragic circumstances in Haiti where Berto was personally affected by the disaster, losing as many as eight family members, he had to pull out of the fight. Come fight night it will be nearly a year and a half since Mosley last fought and I wonder how this will affect him.
