Hagler - Hearns
World Championship means
On April 15, 1985, the famous Cesa's Palace in Las Vegas turns into a volcano. "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler involves the unified middleweight crown against the most dangerous of her suitors, his compatriot Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns.
In three rounds of immense intensity, facing each of these two great champions remains as one of the greatest pages of boxing world.
"A sponsor must be the first spectator. He must imagine in his desires, he organized the fighting." For three years, the former lawyer Bob Arum, who worked for Robert Kennedy in the Justice Department, tried to achieve a folly to oppose the undisputed king of the means, Marvin Hagler, the huge puncher, taking ex-WBA welterweight and WBC super welterweight Thomas Hearns.
But partly because of the genuine animosity between these two men, his efforts have remained long in vain. Stubborn and visionary, the rival Don King persevered in his company. HBO offers ten million for a live broadcast, but Arum put on the charge circuit and a beautifully orchestrated promotion to ensure seven million dollars to Hagler and Hearns and five to complete his dream, a fight titled "The War" (The war).

All the ingredients of a great battle on the table. On

hand, the defending world title means Hagler, the "machine boxer" on the other, Hearns "the puncher." But much more, something magical and unique in the air. From the press conference the tone. Hagler and his red cap with the word "War" portrays its commitment: "I have one thing in mind. War! There is no doubt in my mind, KO Hearns will. I will not play with him. I will destroy it. " Hearns replied: "The fight will not go to the limit. Hagler is nothing. He will suffer the same fate as Duran and even more violent". Unmoved, slipped the champion trainer in his confidant: "I got a surprise in this insolent".

A few minutes of entering the arena of outdoor Cesar Palace in Las Vegas, his dressing room, two fingers extended to indicate the camera Hearne is confident of his facts. The atmosphere around the ring is odd. As if the air was charged with electricity. A mass hysteria took up the audience. The ring feels the powder! Hearns Kronk Gym in color is an acclaimed public overexcited already entered the fight. Hagler, in a blue bathrobe, as the deficit in the whistles of popularity. A national anthem performed by Doc Severinsen on trumpet colors even more time to a dramatic character. In France, the side of Canal + is the relief. Finally, the retransmission of the first "live" boxing in the United States works on a technical level. Subscribers will be able to live safely on top!

To begin, the two men are there to fight and try to finish. In the middle of the ring, the shock is total. The splendid Hagler left and right of the "killer" replies with a storm of straight lefts and right deadly plunge. The intensity of the first minute is unreal! The 15 000 spectators are projected in the heart of this fierce fight, in a breathtaking and terrifying orgy of direct and hooks.
How can we live so much violence? The mental training and have established themselves as the two men probably explain. Like adrenaline that stimulates and makes them resistant to such a hurricane. After one minute, Hearns was forced to concede the center of the ring.
The last 30 seconds are crazy. Hagler chained while Hearne is stuck in the ropes. But against
and shaken by a terrible right Hagler break pressure. Blood spurted from his forehead suddenly, he brushes the wound quickly. Impressive gesture demonstrating its full hardness. Back in his corner, Hagler knows that his injury is serious. It consists in the eyes of his trainers the absolute necessity of stopping Hearns quickly.
The computer runaway HBO: Hearns in three minutes gave 83 powerful shots ... Hagler 82! Many U.S. experts, however, very nostalgic for the champions of yesteryear, consider that the initial round was the most invraissemblable not seen since Dempsey-Firpo in September 1923.

At the second resumption of trade violence is absolute. Defending champion grits his teeth, he fears the injury time and intensifies his hunt. Hearns answer blow for blow. A few seconds of the gong, caught the challenger suffered. He returned to his corner staggered to his feet heron, the eyes vague.
Edwin Homanski, the doctor of the commission of Nevada, examine Hagler's injury during the minute's rest. The room holds its breath.
But the fight resumes. Hagler rushes at his opponent. Hearns is a straight line from behind like a disjointed puppet. However, it mocks the champion of a sign on the chin. Suddenly Steele, a former professional boxer and world reference of the arbitration, calls for a new Homanski horrible break under the right eye of Hagler flows abundantly. It is already too late? Hagler has perhaps lost its precious belts ... "Can you see him? (Can you see it?)", Asks the doctor. The answer is unforgettable: "I have at the moment to strike, right? So ..." The fight resumes again, for how long?

Hearns, proven, decides to change strategy. Guard down, he uses his mobility to widen the gap. He knows that stuck in the strings, it is not effective but that time is now for him. Unfortunately, the "Cobra Detroit" no longer seems in very good balance on his legs and makes the mistake of letting the semblance of distance Hagler that part of getting better and do not let go. Two great lines do spin. Hearns

staggers, his legs are trembling snuff. Yet he tries a hook but is empty. Hagler, like a fawn, chasing its prey. He throws two rights to the chin of a diabolical precision. Struck down, face down, the killer is KO! The upturned eyes, Steele embraces the challenger unseated. Hagler is still the king!

Elected Fight of the Year 1985 by "The Ring Magazine", this fight Dante, one of the most violent in the past two decades, the ambiguity disappears. After twelve years of professionalism in five reigns, Hagler finally became a superstar in his country. While years ago, angered by journalist Alex Wallau who refused to use his nickname The Marvelous (the wonderful), it was officially changed in response to his first name, Hagler will never need this to be recognized for good as "The Marvelous Marvin Hagler" and a legend of the biggest ways the same level as Robinson, Monzon or Greb.
Beyond the generations, this fight is probably as one of the most beautiful pages in the history of the rings. A wonderful time.

Post Re: Hagler - Hearns World Championship means
Hagler - Hearns

"Can you see him ?
