Haye Breaks Silence: Tells Why Klitschko Fights Fell Apart

By Mark Vester

http://www.boxingscene.com/?m=show&id=30551

WBA heavyweight champion David Haye broke his silence on the failed negotiations to make fights with WBC champion Vitali Klitschko and younger brother Wladimir Klitschko, the WBO/IBO/IBF champion. Haye went into detail on the contract negotiations, why the fights continue to fall apart and why the negotiations will continue to fall apart in the future. The majority of Haye's venom was aimed at the recent negotiations to make a fight with Wladimir.

"I wanted 50/50. That's what I said from the start. If you give me 50% maximum of all of the territories, of all the ticket sales....the fight is going to happen. He didn't want that to happen. The reason being, he's tied into a TV contract. He's got a multi-fight deal with RTL, a German television network. I know there's more money to be had in Germany because I've been talking to the television networks and there's more money to be had," Haye said. "He's not willing to put the maximum from his territory into the pot. I'm doing that. He's not doing that and that's totally unacceptable for me."

"I gave him an alternative. [I said] you keep 100% of your RTL money and I can keep 100% of the UK money. We split everything else 50/50 and we get the fight done. [He said] no. He totally didn't answer that, didn't accept that, and the fight is not happening because of that. I gave him two options. He flat out refused both of them."

Haye then took shots at Wladimir's opponent for September 11, Samuel Peter, and Vitali's choice for October 16, Shannon Briggs.

"He signs to fight Samuel Peter....someone that his brother smashed to pieces the other day, and his brother signs to fight Shannon "Asthma Pump" Briggs. I'm going to be announcing another opponent. I'm not willing to submit to their crap. They think they deserve it their way...I don't."

Post Re: Haye Breaks Silence: Tells Why Klitschko Fights Fell Apa
Haye is really to blame imo for the fight not happening.

He was giving two options to the Klitschkos. In one option, it would involve, (or risked), the Klitschkos breaking their deal with RTL. Obviously they aren't going to like that, and understandably so.

In the other option, Haye may perhaps have earned the greater share of the money through UK PPV.

Now given that either Klitschko has a higher status as "champion" than Haye does, it's also understandable that they wouldn't like the idea of Haye maybe earning more money for the fight.

The Klitschkos may have offered him pretty bad contracts in the past, but this time I don't see how you can comlain about a 50/50 offer. Maybe there was more money to be made in Germany if the Klitschkos weren't tied into a contract with RTL, but so what?

Just take the 50/50 split and make the fecking fight! I'm sure Haye would be making good money whatever.

And as for Audley Harrison...

What a farce Haye is.
He's completely see through... Reynold's Wrap.
What is up with him offering options to the Klitschkos? He's a small fry fighting nobodies, acting like he gets to call the shots. David Haye doesn't offer the options. The Klitschkos are obviously the dominate force at HW and the true champions. David is a paper champ, a lip-service champ, who beat a guy that 47 year old Holyfield had just beaten. And frankly, Haye didn't deserve the decision. Wlad an Vitali know that...
This is yet another example of Haye trying to step all over the Doctors' honor. It's no different than a shirt with a beheaded Wlad on it. David is acting too big for his britches, and the whole planet knows he'd just get knocked out, laid flat having seizures on the canvas if he ever manned up.
So he won't. He'll wait. He'll hope Briggs and Peter and Adamek and Valuev and Povetkin and Solis and Holyfield do all the work for him while he waits around being a complete joke.

I don't no. I don't no.

Haye is the challenger and not the King of the Heavyweight division.

This status have the both Klitschkos and so is it normal that this 2 guys have the last word. Thats a fact of this business.

Or can you desire more money as your chief? No you must at first make the same good work how your chief, or beats your chief in a direct contest.

Thats just a example guys ok?

When Haye is really the coming man of the heavyeight division he make the fight directly, and when he win (who believe that..?) then he can make the rules and the big money for a rematch or maybe a clash again Vitaly.

But we all see by Hayes declare it will never and never come to a fight with one of the Klitschkos.

My last word to that is, forget Haye and his chitchat...

i think it's perfectly acceptable for haye to demand 50/50 considering he packed in 20,000 to watch him fight ruiz how much would he do against klitschko he has bargaining power if you ask me and he has a belt ok we know the klits are the ture heavyweight champions of the division but seeing as they will never fight each other then haye is the only other option for some sort of unification

you got to look at it this way also that haye is not a natural heavweight and despite being a belt holder hasn't faced any competition that would prepare him for either klitschko so he's taking a huge risk in challenging them

he should at least try and get the most money he can for the fight otherwise what's the point he's probably going to get knocked out anyway

and it's not like the opponents the klitschko's are facing are any more credible than the ones haye is

i mean sosnowski, briggs sam peter again come on

i can understand why haye is doing this not saying it's right but boxing is about who can generate money and haye can do that

plus if haye fights klit then they get HBO which right now the klitschko's can't secure because the American public have no interest in seeing them fight

Really good point, and perhaps a game changer

Haye was being offered 50/50.

What Haye is demanding, is 50/50 taking into account a hypothetical situation that if the Klitschkos weren't under contract then you could perhaps generate more money from the German market.

So really, as it could easily be looked at, Haye is demanding 55/45 in his favour. (Of course, the percentage that Haye would really earn would depend on the success of the UK PPV.)

I wouldn't say that Haye doesn't want the fight. I haven't seen any proof of that. But to me, it looks like this fight isn't happening because Haye had an ego attack.

A fair deal was on the table for him.

Haye is kidding himself if he believes he deserves 50% of the gate, the Klitchkos don't need him, he needs to fight them to be considered a legitimate Heavyweight, period.

I would consider Haye legit if he fought some stiffer competition. Povetkin, Adamek, Arreola, Solis, Peter, Chagaev, Chambers, or even Dimitrenko would help. Beat those guys and he's legit.
The problem is all he's done is call out the Klitschkos... now he MUST fight them or be labeled a coward... and he sure looks like a coward. And that's hard to do when you're stepping in a ring to fight guys who want to kill you. But Haye forced this situation on himself. Had he come into heavyweight and earned 5-6 worthy victories in the last 2 years he wouldn't have to call out the K bros. All the fans and media pundits would do it for him.
But as it stands he looks the patsy, hypocrit, and chicken.
Take the amount you've been offered and get on with it, if you're truly worth my time Haye! I mean didn't you see what happened to Valuev? He turns down the first offer so then Vitali offers less... that's gonna happen to David too; and it should just for putting all of us through these shenanigans.
