Post Leonard - Duran II
Leonard - Duran II
Five months after their first confrontation in Montreal, which had turned to the advantage of Duran, the young American prodigy finds the Panamanian hands of stone. This November 25, 1990, New Orleans, however feels that the powder.
Sugar Ray Leonard intends to erase his disappointment when the defending champion hopes to add another success to his collection of fourteen wins in world championship.
The contrast of styles keeps all its promises for eight times before the famous "No Mas" let go of resentment by Roberto Duran.
The tears of Sugar in Montreal have just had time to dry after the cruel disappointment inflicted by the "hands of stone" of the king of light. Dozens of times, the "Golden Boy" has viewed the images of his failure. He identified his sins of pride, beat the "game of war." Yet despite his preparation for this damned contrast, forecasts, but lately his virtuosity in favor, leaning strongly to the destructive force of the Panamanian, even if the ad with an excess weight of six pounds, nearly a month before this new appointment.
His hatred for the American has now transformed into the extraordinary arrogance. "There is only one legend of the rings, it's me! Leonard did not understand?" Still unbeaten in World Championships (since 1972, he successfully chained 14), its new coronation was introduced into the circle of legends. Before him, only Barney Ross in May 1934, and Henry Armstrong in July 1938 were crowned in both divisions prestigious lightweight and welterweight.

For this, however, Duran

pocketing eight million dollars against "only" six to Leonard. The young American knows he has no right to a second failure on pain of breaking the golden thread of his career. The pressure on his shoulders is enormous. Four years after his Olympic final, this appointment is the most decisive of his life. Winner, he would erase his failure in Montreal, but beaten, he will join the long list of failed hopes in the professional ranks.

Surrounded by his clan, including Angelo Dundee, Leonard travels slowly, his face almost tied with the issue, the long road to the ring. In his black robe, the angel seems to have turned into a demon. And even though the challenger did not arrive at ringside, the "pack" of Panama, not a frenzied, also appeared in the crowd. Duran breathing invulnerable assurance and arrogance of a champion sure of his facts.
Under the cameras of ABC, Ray Charles marks the importance of the event by a sublime interpretation of "Sweet America" that relaxes his compatriot, now all smiles on the soul anthem which sends the already want to dance. Undoubtedly, Duran seems less sharp than in Montreal. His gaze both Ray, but does not seem as dark as hate and five months ago.

Camped in the center of the ring from the first gong, Duran began his hunt. He tries to fit in, but this time, Leonard does not scalded the fight midway and uses his mobility to dance around the hands of stone, like a shadow.
Duran is trying gradually to increase its pressure, but nothing works, Leonard is released from all dangerous situations with its vista and speed. Never static, always moving on tiptoe, it affects jabs and managed two nice lines.
While Duran finally managed to catch Leonard in the second recovery, it is he who is a terrible counter right hook. This move puts him in a rage. It tries to impose war, launching shots of absolute fury. But Sugar is released without a lot of pressure. The next round, he still dodges the heavy lines with ease and punishes even the Panamanian left hooks against evil.
Suddenly Duran touch of a hard right into the face of Leonard. But this reply does not make the mistake of staying at the preferred distance of his opponent. The end of the round is a terrible battle. The pressure of the championship finally comes to impose some fights against the ropes, but the speed of the U.S. is also the difference.

In the fourth round, the challenger is still elusive. What
Sugar difference between this fight and Montreal! Hands of stone boxing in a vacuum. A round later, Leonard suddenly fall heavily to the ground, but driven only by Duran who returns to his corner, frustrated. In his corner, Ray Arcel encouraged to raise even the laundry and get closer to trigger more trade midway. But the class of Leonard neutralizes all aggressive South American. Unable to adapt its boxing, Duran gets mad and continues to search for the street fight. As a bullfighter, Leonard dancing around him, then suddenly spins up banderillas. This is a recital!

At the 6th, the battle turns in the demonstration. Duran lost its luster over the second. Static, outdated, unresolved, disillusioned ... Under control, he is regularly countered during his attacks. Frustration at such a domination technique is enormous. But the seventh round will be even more terrible for him.
It is 2 minutes and Leonard provides the show. In the manner of his idol Muhammad Ali, he mocks his opponent now. Hands on knees, the room, laughing, causes, and picnic and fainted. Moves his shoulders, and even against heavy hooks. The public rejoicing. What a lesson in noble art! Sugar Duran bullied. Suddenly he begins to dance, then mouline his right jab before unleashing a left foot. Leonard leads again and motioned to Duran to come to better counter it. No one had treated and Duran. It's show Leonard and Duran is reduced in the second part. Arcel is still trying to motivate his colt to the call of the eighth, but he has already understood that he would not accept such a long punishment. However, American does not lead only two points for two judges.

It remains 16 seconds before the end of the eighth round, when suddenly Duran turned his back on his opponent. The Mexican referee Octovio Meyram does not understand and ordered him to box. Duran said that no two words have become legendary: "No Mas" (Enough). Terrible confession of failure. Demoralized, the ogre in mind flawless turns a colossus with feet of clay. Duran, the idol of a nation and a continent, touched the depths of his strength and his pride, abdicates. Leonard takes back and explodes with joy, but private fireworks, the crowd roars of dissatisfaction with the resignation of Panamanian mad.

Having returned to his dressing room as whistles, Duran, in disarray alongside

his agent Luis Henriquez, book an interview where he excuse touching without actually convince stomach cramps to justify its abandonment, before announcing its withdrawal from the ring.
Mobility and ease of insolent American had because of the great Roberto. Despite his record unmatched in the aftermath of the wreck, not wanting to accept the rules of the law of the rings, the latter is placed under the thunder of the press, as an outlaw. Some journalists are questioning even if it is still a fighter and dare call him a "deserter." As if two words were enough to transform this lord of the royal line of warriors in a loose Hispanic ...

But never was as painful and as difficult to defeat up psychologically. The redemption of the demigod lasts 30 months. Undermined by this punishment, painfully won in 1981 Minchillo and Nino Gonzalez Duran was defeated by Benitez and Kirkland Laing before succeeding his double or nothing in June 1983 for the title WBA super welterweight at the expense of Davey Moore.
Nine years later, to finally heal his wounds, he agreed to meet for a beautiful Leonard titled "Uno Mas" (Again).

Post Re: Leonard - Duran II
Leonard - Duran II
