So the Pacman will take on Margarito. What do you guys think of this bout.

I feel Margarito will not have a clue on how to handle the speed of Pacquiao and this is a potential mismatch. I feel Mayweather would have got slaughtered for announcing this bout so why any different for Manny?

1 - There's no redeeming value to this fight.
Pacquiao isn't going to fight for much longer; why fight the biggest chump in the entire sport?
And if he wins ... so what?

2 - Margo has not earned this shot in any way. His last fight was dull and uninspired against a no-one. Before that he gets obliterated by Mosley.
Why the heck isn't Manny fighting Shane then? At least we could compare how he does against Shane to how Mayweather did.

If this fight was actually at 154 that would be the only plus to this bout. But, catch weight fights like this are built in excuses for the loser, and this won't represent Manny actually fighting at jr. middleweight. If he were moving up for real, at least that would be something to build a case on for this fight. Without that, this bout has no merits.

it's funny a few years back if you had of suggested pac fighting margarito even at welter people would've looked at you like you were crazy

but what with margarito being beaten badly by mosley the hand wrap scandal and his inactivity since then due to the ban it looks as though the odds are heavily stacked in pac's favor now where before that wasn't the case

if mayweather is too pussy to fight pac what can we do? i love watching pacquiao so i'll be watching this fight regardless of the fact i think there are more worthy opponents (berto or williams)that he should be fighting fact is though they aren't a draw but margarito can draw crowds so can cotto

Stay-busy bout for Pacquiao, he's stepping up to yet another weight class, and facing off against the biggest opponent he's competed against. It's funny, before the Mosley bout, I'd have liked Margarito's chances of doing some damage, but since then, has he deteriorated dramatically, difficult to tell. Obviously Pacquiao will come in as the overwhelming favourite, but at the same time, this will easily become the biggest fight of Margarito's career, and he'll be looking to be the first Mexican to defeat Pacquiao in x years. If Pacquiao becomes complacent suddenly, he'll likely have some difficult moments to contend with, otherwise he should be able to pepper Margarito all night long with speedy straight crosses, and perhaps enforce the stoppage eventually.

This will be one though I'll be looking forward to, I don't see it as a foregone formality.

How many weight classes do you think Pacquiao could fight in effectively at this stage of his career?

It's a fair question.
1-Fighting Lopez would of course require a catch weight (just like Margarito)...
2-This was a list of "better picks" (so they might not be immediately feasible in like 2 weeks!). But, I definitely think Juan vs Manny at a catchweight would be a better pick than fighting Antonio. That's either a statement on how much I dislike Margarito, or how much I believe in Manny's weight flexibility - I haven't decided which. It would certainly be a stretch but I don't think any of the others are really, in terms of weight.

Putting Pac in with Antonio isn't any more difficult than putting him in with Williams (who would even lean down to 147 for this fight), or Martinez who's been at 154 awhile.
And all those guys at 135/140 pounds? I think Manny could make 140 easily and anyone below would have to come up. Considering it's only 5 pounds for most and a considerable payday, I'm sure they'd all jump at the chance.


I'm not so much trying to paint Manny as some weight jumping superman, as arguing against the Margarito fight. At least JuanMa is undefeated with vicious knockout power that'd probably come with him. Antonio is just a emasculated husk who doesn't deserve this shot at all. He's only there b/c of Arum, not his own merits.

The reason for that is simple.

Magarito is a hard tough guy that have many to do to make his bad past good. And for that he will fight how an lion.

He is one of the elite fighters. Beats at 2 time Kermit Cintron, beats Cotto and Clottey.

All in all a big opponent for Manny that will fight for his life and his future in Boxing as a pro.

But at the end I predict a close victory for Manny by SD.

I'm really sure that Magarito fight from the halfdistance without pause and always on pushing.

But Manny is at the end faster and tougher....

Hey guys my first post, nice site.

I think this fight is great in the eyes of a better. Currently Margarito is around +500 in the fight which is huge, Pacq is around -700. I dont think that Pacq is that much big of a favourite that the bookies are giving him these odds, If the line increases in Pacq's favour even more before the fight then I will bet something on Margarito. I think his size will trouble Pacq and despite all the critisizm about him cheating and everything I just dont buy it and I think Margarito is live as anyone against Pacq.

Another bet is the over/under 9.5 rounds O: +145 U: -160 right now.

In the last 5 fights for both Marg and Pacq only one fight has gone to a decision. Roberto in Margaritos case (Marg knocked him down in the fight and Roberto played dirty most of the fight) and in Pacq's case its Clottey which is known for his defense.

Both of these guys are brawlers and if Pacq chooses to stand and trade bombs with Margarito I think that Margarito will have an edge because of his size and strenght. Pacq needs to use angles and pick Marg off instead of going rockem sockem robot on him. I dont see this fight going over 9.5 rounds, these two guys are KO fighters and arent defensive fighters. Im going to place a bet on the under, just waiting for the lines to be better if they start getting worse im placing a bet but I think the media hype surrounding Pacq might even lower his line to something stupid like -900 which is just horrible because Margarito is live.

So I think that Margarito might have a chance against Pacq, I dont think he will win the fight but I do think he has enough of a chance to warrant a bet on him with the great odds that the bookies are giving us right now, maybe closer to fight the line will be even better. But for the 9.5 RD O/U I gotta bet Under for sure! I thinks thats a lock.
