I just finished watching a video of Ray's pro debut against Luis Vega. It struck me that he already had the moves and poise of an accomplished pro, plus the heart and killer instinct that Mayweather seems to lack. I'd pick a prime Leonard over Floyd or Manny without hesitation.
Watching and listening, I also remembered, with some sadness, how much I had enjoyed Jerry Quarry's ringside commentary back then. In addition to being a top heavyweight in a very tough era, he was an articulate and funny guy who clearly "connected" with other fighters. RIP.
