As the football star, Eder Jofre was born into a poor family. His father Aristide, an Argentine

Jofre avait surtout une formidable capacité d'adaptation. Il était un vrai chasseur qui pouvait changer de style face à tout type d'adversaire.

En quatre ans, il signe quatorze succès (8 avant la limite) et devient le challenger officiel de José Legras, détenteur du titre mondial WBC. A 37 ans, le Brésilien prouve qu'il n'a rien perdu de ses qualités de combattant et détrône l'Espagnol par décision unanime, le 5 mai 1973 à Brasilia. Cinq mois après à Salvador, il défend son titre face au gaucher mexicain Vicente Saldivar, mis K.-O. dans le 4e round sur un crochet gauche, l'arme fatal d'Eder Jofre. La WBC met un terme à son exceptionnel come-back en le destituant de son titre, le 18 juin 1974, pour ne pas avoir affronté son challenger Alfredo Marcano. Jofre poursuivra tout de même sa carrière durant deux années lors desquelles il remporte les sept combats avant de prendre sa retraite en 1976 sur un bilan de 72 victoires (50 avant la imite), 4 nuls et 2 défaites.
Quelques années plus tard, il remporte un autre brillant succès. Sur le ring politique cette fois, en devenant maire de Sao Paulo.
