He only missed only thirteen seconds to be crowned world champion middleweight in September 1950 to American Jack LaMotta. Dautuillle Laurent, nicknamed "Tarzan Buzenval" has never known the world title he so richly deserved. In the shadow of Marcel Cerdan, he built the most beautiful of his career in Canada and made the best hours of French boxing in the post-war.

Among the amateurs, Dauthuille proved very effective. As the winner of the Criterium in 1943, he was crowned the welterweight champion of France the following year, won a 93rd victory (for 2 draws and
5 losses) and turned professional on September 19. His career blazing fast and powerful shot is already damage. A tear in his first 22 fights, but it puts an end to the career of Jean Despeaux (aban. third) and points to beat Robert Charron and Assane Diouf. Yet Villemain and Belgian Delannoit cut it off in to the top. He feels cheated by those decisions points and intends to give new impetus to his career in Canada.

On 1 November 1948, he left France with his wife Andree, their little Josette and Andre Barraut. Lawrence quickly found Dauthuillle determination and fame. It will deliver fourteen fights in two years. His defeat by Cuban Kid Gavilan, 21 November 1949, is even challenged by Jack Dempsey present at ringside. But he defeated Chris Zivic (KO 9th), April 3, 1950 in Pittsburgh and Steve Belloise (KO 7th), May 1 in Montreal, before returning to Paris in hopes of reaching the top of the world face this LaMotta that dominated February 21, 1949 in Montreal. Marcel Cerdan, world champion means a few months, had indicated a willingness to give a chance to his compatriot. He will never. Then LaMotta, who won an earlier Cerdan, who offers him. Two months after his defeat against the Bull of the Bronx, he defeated Paddy Young points at Madison Square Garden in New York, Otis Graham, then in Montreal. After 62 fights (45 wins, including 24 front boundary, 4 draws and 13 defeats), the French Federation withdraws its license. He turned to wrestling more to live than to maintain his passion for rings. As in his teens he Cumulative performance on small jobs (gas station attendant, a driver for Courier Press and scanner) before losing his life at the age of 47 years.

Il le prend sous son aile lorsque Laurent perd son père, chef d'équipe chez Renault avant d'être employé comme cantonnier-fossoyeur au cimétière de Saint-Cloud en 1941, laissant derrière lui une veuve et quatre enfants.

Pourtant, Villemain et le Belge Delannoit le coupent dans son envol vers les sommets. Il se sent floué par ces décisions aux points et entend donner un nouvel élan à sa carrière au Canada.

Le 1er novembre 1948, il quitte la France avec sa femme Andrée, leur petite Josette et André Barraut. Laurent Dauthuillle retrouve vite sa détermination et la renommée. Il livrera quatorze combats en deux ans. Sa défaite devant le Cubain Kid Gavilan, le 21 novembre 1949, est même contestée par Jack Dempsey présent au bord du ring. Mais il bat Chris Zivic (KO 9e), le 3 avril 1950 à Pittsburg et Steve Belloise (KO 7e), le 1er mai à Montréal, avant de rentrer à Paris avec l'espoir d'atteindre le toit du monde face à ce LaMotta qu'il a dominé le 21 février 1949 à Montréal. Marcel Cerdan, champion du monde des moyens depuis quelques mois, s'était dit prêt à donner sa chance à son compatriote. Il ne pourra jamais. C'est alors LaMotta, vainqueur de Cerdan un plus tôt, qui lui offre. Avec l'issue dramatique que l'on connaît. Laurent Dauthuille ne s'en remettra jamais, mais il repart pourtant au charbon.

Deux mois après son échec face au Taureau du Bronx, il bat aux points Paddy Young au Madison Square Garden de New York, puis Otis Graham à Montréal. Mais deux autres échecs devant Charles Humez (aux points) et Johnny Bratton (aban. 3e), l'ex-champion du monde du monde NBA des welters, n'annoncent rien de bon. Le 11 novembre 1952 au Palais des Sports, Mickey Laurent n'a besoin que de deux rounds pour mettre KO un Dauthuille qui n'est plus que l'ombre de lui même. Après 62 combats (45 victoires, dont 24 avant limite, 4 nuls et 13 défaites), la fédération française lui retire sa licence. Il se tourne alors vers le catch, plus pour vivre que pour entretenir sa passion des rings. Comme lors de son adolescence, il cummule le petits emplois (pompiste, chauffeur aux Messageries de la Presse et balayeur) avant de perdre la vie à l'âge de 47 ans.
