Homme discret, Marcel Thil disparaît le 14 août 1968 dans sa maison de Cannes, des suites d'un accident de la circulation. Le 6 janvier dernier, le champion français a été cité parmi les boxeurs honorés (ainsi que Eugène Criqui), lors de la 16e cérémonie annuelle du fameux l'International Boxing Hall of Fame américain de Canastota, près de New York.
