Durant les quatorze rounds, Pryor aura porté 1 252 coups à son adversaire. La controverse de ce combat, renforcée par une anomalie du rembourrage des gants de Pryor, force la WBA à accorder une revanche au Nicaraguyen. Dix mois plus tard au Caesars Palace de Las Vegas, le champion ne laisse supposer aucun doute sur sa victoire par KO au 10e round. Après avoir annoncé sa retraite, Arguello tente un come back de quatre combats avant de s’en aller avec un palmarès de 80 victoires (64 avant la limite) pour 8 défaites.
