A la fin du 3e round, une lourde droite cueille Graziano au menton. Celui-ci s’écroule sur le dos. L'arbitre ne peut que le compter 4 ! Furieux, il bondit sur ses pieds. Et dans la reprise suivante, c’est lui qui accule Zale. Une lutte "pied à pied" s’engage alors. Lors du 5e, le public debout, effrayé par l’intensité, n’hurle plus. De longs silences campent la dramatique situation. La tension est irrespirable. Graziano se déchaîne même si les bombes de Zale le percutent régulièrement.
Affolé, l’arbitre avertit les coins. «Si vous ne prenez pas vos responsabilités, je serai contraint de stopper le combat.
