Marciano - Charles II

Post Re: Marciano - Charles II
Marciano - Charles II
World heavyweight championship
On September 17, 1954, the Yankee Stadium in New York hosts the contrast between world heavyweight champion undefeated Rocky Marciano, Ezzard Charles and his compatriot.
The first confrontation, very tight, casts considerable uncertainty on the second fight. Charles can overcome the undisputed champion?
During the first fight in June 1954, Charles had the shots hit the arcades of carved champion. But the challenger bowed to points on a unanimous but close decision (8 rounds to 6 rounds against a zero).
Three months later, however the challenger gratifies the feat of keeping distance. If the roughness

exchange in June could have created a mutual resentment between the two men, weighing organized the old Madison Square Garden in New York takes place in courtesy of "lords".

The next evening, in black breeches, Rocky enters the arena, under the indescribable ovation from his audience. Yet from the first round, it was Charles who touches with beautiful lines. But in the next, after two heavy square brackets, the challenger can be found on the ground ... The battle is fierce in the following rounds. Many melee are caused by the "Roc" which continues to advance. Ezzard Charles, who seems more elegant, turns left without fleeing. Gong at the fifth occasion, the referee Al Berl, intervenes aggressively to stop an exchange of blows late. The fight
is fierce.
During the next act, Charles of an elbow fracture the nose of the champion. Severely affected, the appendix is literally split in two! On the way back to his corner, it's stupor. This injury is one of the most spectacular one is ever seen on a ring. Marciano is bleeding profusely, the stop is near. In the seventh round, Charles operates the target and the intervention of the doctor watches for Rocky ...

At the call of the eighth round, Al Weil yet little known for his compassion seems to stop the fight. Face covered with blood, left the arcade Rocky is also notched. Stubborn, he argues tirelessly and batons. When suddenly, "Suzy Q" arises! While Charles dodged a left hook, right hand of the terrible Marciano pick the hook and sent to the mat. Count 4, the Cobra gets up and tries to hang on. But two straight, one slightly behind the head are falling again.

Demolished, Ezzard does not repeat the feat of holding fifteen rounds. Pout, this fight will be designated as the "Fight of the Year 1954" by the American magazine "The Ring".
