Recognized worldwide as one of the greatest coaches in the history of the noble art, American Ray Arcel ran twenty world champions during his long career, which lasted seventy years. Frankie Genaro Larry Holmes.
Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1899, Ray Arcel was raised in a suburb difficult to New York City, in East Harlem. Some fighting in the amateur ranks exert his interest in boxing. But soon he decides to hang up and began his coaching career with Frank "Doc" Bagley, who led the career including Gene Tunney. In 1923, his first touch Arcel jackpot when Frankie Genaro becomes world champion

of flies. The career of this extraordinary coach starts. In 1925, Charley Phil Rosenberg is offering him the title after losing 16 pounds in three months to capture the world crown cocks. From 1925 to 1934, Arcel works in association with the trainer Whitey Bimstein. Jackie Kid Berg, Lou Brouillard and Sixto Escobar are among the champions led by the duo. Arcel also works alongside Barney Ross and especially his first idol, Benny Leonard, when it attempts a comeback.
James J. Braddock is the first truck developed by Arcel. Before taking the heavyweight title, Braddock is one of fourteen opponents of Joe Louis Arcel trained Ezzard Charles in particular that captured the vacant world title heavyweight against the "Brown Bomber" in September 1950. Ray Arcel was also in the corner of champions such as Tony
Marino, Ceferino Garcia, Billy Soos, Kid Gavilan and Tony Zale.
In the early 50s, Ray Arcel distrusted the familiar concerns that arranges fights for ABC television in competition with matches staged by the IBC for other networks. In September 1953, at a Boston hotel, Arcel gets beaten with iron bars on the head. Many believed that the attack was linked to its working for television. Once on foot, he has a long desert crossing. Until the early 70's where he made a comeback. It is recovery taking under his wing a Roberto Duran. Their association lasted eight years.

Arcel was then coach Larry Holmes for three years. He worked with Eddie Futch to defend the world title against heavyweight Gerry Cooney in 1982. This will be his last fight before retiring after a career that spanned seventy years. Named for the famous Hall of Fame in 1991, it will turn off March 6, 1994 at the age of 95. Throughout his career, Ray Arcel was more than two thousand fighters.

Reconnu dans le monde entier comme l'un des plus grands entraîneurs de l'histoire du noble art, l'Américain Ray Arcel a dirigé vingt champions du monde durant sa longue carrière qui a duré soixante-dix ans. De Frankie Genaro à Larry Holmes.
Né à Terre Haute, dans l'Indiana, en 1899, Ray Arcel grandit dans une banlieue difficile de New York City, à East Harlem. Quelques combats dans les rangs amateurs exercent son intérêt pour la boxe. Il décide pourtant très vite de raccrocher et entame sa carrière d'entraîneur auprès de Franck "Doc" Bagley, qui a notamment conduit la carrière de Gene Tunney. En 1923, Arcel touche son premier gros lot, lorsque Frankie Genaro devient champion du monde

des mouches. La carrière de ce prodigieux entraîneur est lancée. En 1925, c'est Charley Phil Rosenberg qui lui offre le titre après avoir perdu 16 kilos en trois mois pour s'emparer de la couronne mondial des coqs. De 1925 à 1934, Arcel travaille en association avec l'entraîneur Whitey Bimstein. Jackie Kid Berg, Lou Brouillard et Sixto Escobar figurent parmi les champions dirigés par le duo. Arcel travaille aussi aux cotés de Barney Ross et surtout de sa première idole, Benny Leonard, lorsque ce dernier tente un come back.
James J. Braddock est le premier poids lourds préparé par Arcel. Avant de prendre le titre des lourds, Braddock fait partie des quatorze adversaires de Joe Louis formés par Arcel et notamment Ezzard Charles qui s'empare du titre mondial vacant des lourds face au «Brown Bomber» en septembre 1950. Ray Arcel a également été dans le coin de champions comme Tony
Marino, Ceferino Garcia, Billy Soose, Kid Gavilan et Tony Zale.
Au début des années 50, Ray Arcel connaît des soucis la méfia qui arrange des combats pour la chaîne de télévision ABC en concurrence avec les matchs montés par l'IBC pour d'autres réseaux. En septembre 1953, devant un hôtel de Boston, Arcel reçoit des coups de barre de fer sur la tête. Beaucoup ont cru que cette agression était liée à ses relations de travail pour la télévision. Une fois sur pieds, il connaît une longue traversée du désert. Jusqu'au début des années 70 où il fait un retour fracassant. Il se relance en prenant sous sa coupe un certain Roberto Duran. Leur association dure huit ans.

Arcel a ensuite été l'entraîneur de Larry Holmes durant trois ans. Il travaille avec Eddie Futch pour la défense du titre mondial des lourds contre Gerry Cooney en 1982. Ce sera son dernier combat avant de se retirer au terme d'une carrière qui a duré soixante-dix ans. Nommé au fameux Hall of Fame en 1991, il s'éteind le 6 mars 1994 à l'âge de 95 ans. Durant toute sa carrière, Ray Arcel a eu plus de deux mille boxeurs.
