Lloyd Honeyghan vs Simon Brown

This was a fight I am surprised never happened as both were undefeated top 10 contenders in the late 80s with Brown picking up a piece of the title when Honey lost to Jorge Vaca first time round. Both were good boxer/punchers who could also switch stances. Common nemisis in Marlon Starling albeit he got them both at the right time (Simon on the way up and Lloyd on the slide)

If this fight was in their primes I would say for Lloyd it was before he lost to Vaca and for Simon after he won a 147 belt.

Give me your thoughts guys as I thought they were to similar for me to give a clear edge to either fighter

i think lioyd wins on points .lioyd wound of been a little to bizzy for brown always 1 or 2 punches ahead of him .i reckon a good close battle with lioyd edges it on points.1987 wound of been a good time for them to meet

the honeyghan that beat curry, bumphus and blocker would have out worked and outpointed brown.
honeyghan was really good for a short time span

Couldnt say it much better myself. Honeyghan was very good, almost great but only for a 2 year span.

It’s a shame that they never fought, woulda made for a good one, if memory serves correctly I believe Lloyd was at ringside for Brown/Trice I in France eyeing a unification bout to reclaim his old IBF strap, but for some reason the projected fight didn't materialise. Given that at the time Brown was very much on the rise and coming into his own, whilst partying habits were catching up with Lloyd, I would have thought that the difference would come down to Brown's superior work ethic and application of ring pressure , however the Lloyd of old that impressively dispatched of Brown's stable mate Maurice Blocker IMO was a class above, and it would tell, it’s just that in between Lloyd never managed to sustain the form.
