The first round of the preliminary round is finished!

Image

The first clash was between Arthur “King” Abraham and Jermain “Bad Intenions” Taylor. 2009/10/17

A very close on highest Boxing level Box fight with a surprising last minute Ko in the 12th round by Arthur Abraham.

Arthur welcome in Super middleweight, welcome with a perfect start in Super Six!

Leader of the first round with 3 save points.

Image

A dirty clash between the British Puncher Carl “The Cobra”Froch and the super technical Andre "The Matrix" Direll. 2009/10/17

Direll fights with a guerilla tactic, attack go away, attack go away.

Froch was much nerved from the Fight style of Direll, and have big problems to place Direll.

The Fight was from round to round more dirty, and Direll make with his tactic and fast combinations the points,

but the bench see an another Fight and gives Froch an dubious SD victory.

The Big surprise in this first round!

The Big favorite for the most experts the Dane Mikkel “The Viking Warrior” Kessler become a lesson from the youngest Fighter in this tournament the American Andre “S.O.G” Ward. 2009/11/21

The unknown super Fighter/Puncher and underdog deconstruct Kessler over 11 rounds without a chance for Kessler to take a little air or a little pause.

Ward was always on moving, fight as southpaw, as orthodox Fighter, was very agile with his legs and his upper part of body, and always on punch with one

two three combinations.

Kessler was branded with cuts on the left and right side over his eyes that comes from head butts, that alleged not unintentionally was

However Kessler was chanceless from start to finish.

The fight was stopped in the 11th round and Ward won the fight by TD.

A new Super Star is born!

My personally table and Assessment after the first round.

1 – Andre Ward
2 – Arthur Abraham
3 - Andre Direll
4 – Carl Froch
5 – Mikkel Kessler
6 – Jermain Taylor

And now your mind... your personally judge...

Post Re: Super Six / First round of the preliminary round
The comment I would make, is firstly, the fights haven't been that good. Taylor vs Abraham was a nice enough fight, but the other two were uninteresting for me. If you're American, however, I'm guessing you may have liked seeing Ward dominate Kessler a little more.

Second thing I would say, is that the tournament now seems to be wide open. How good is Ward really? Did he beat a faded Kessler? Dirrell has a tough fight against Abraham, but may have the style to frustrate him and win on points. And Froch may not have the attributes of an Andre Ward, but it has to look a little better for him now taking on Kessler. If that fight turns into a war, who knows?

Ward show us that he is a fantastic Boxer with amazing skills.

Kessler and faded? I don't know he is only 30 years old, and Ward was the dominator of the evening from start to finish.

I think Direll can beat Abraham with the same tactic how again Froch, but please at this time a little bit more agressiv Direll.

Kessler vs. Froch: Yeah I believe this Fight can be a great war, and a very close Fight. The winnere ? I don't no....

Ward will no problems have again Taylor or big trouble with Froch.

The only big opponent for him is for me Direll or Abraham.

We will see.

I would say that you would need to start a whole new tournament for that. I don't think you can start messing about with the rules/participants of a tournament after it has already started. To replace Taylor if he were unable to continue through injury is one thing, assuming that a mechanism exists for that under the rules. But I'm guessing you would be breaking not only Taylor's contract but the contracts of all the other fighters also if you just did it because you thought someone else were the better fighter to have in it.

The star of the first round I think is clearly Andre Ward, he showed himself to be a true top caliber fighter and showed that he might be able to win this whole thing. The second round should be quite interesting with Kessler-Froch, Dirrell-Abraham and Taylor-Ward, Taylor might actually be able to do better than Kessler did against Ward and I think another surprise might happen in Dirrell-Abraham plus regardless of who wins, Kessler-Froch should be a great fight.

I'm enjoying these fights actually... I think it's because of the whole tournament points system. It's adds a whole extra element, tying each fight to the next and ratchets up the excitement and tension a bit for me. As for the next set of bouts:

I predict Kessler comes back in top form against Froch, mainly to get another belt around the waist. I don't fancy Carl's supposed strength all that highly either so it'll be Tayor vs Froch all over again, but Carl won't land the lucky punch in the 12th.

Froch vs Kessler = Kessler Wins by wide UD

In Taylor vs Ward I think we'll see the very best 2nd round fight. Their styles match up nicely for some serious action. Ward will take by it via youth. But Taylor will redeem himself. Still - don't be surprised if he claims an injury after the fight forcing him to pull out of the tournament, since he'll already be too far behind on points.

Taylor vs Ward = Ward Wins by close UD

And in Abraham vs Dirrell I differ from alot of others. Dirrell was slick against Froch but he did take a few flush shots. I warrant Abraham to score at least one if not two knockdowns when he lands the same, and his defense is FAR stiffer than Carl's so I don't know that Dirrell will score as easily. Andre might win close rounds, but I bet big money that Arthur does a million times better than Carl at cutting off the ring and scoring with combinations in the corners.

Dirrell vs Abraham = Abraham Wins by SD

I hope for Kessler, that his psyche is strong enough to forget this clear loss again Ward , or I see any big problems for Kessler.

Froch vs. Kessler : Froch SD

Taylor try to fight with Ward, but he have after the 4th round no chance more.

Ward vs. Taylor : Ward UD

The big fight in the second round: (yeah)

Direll vs. Abrahm must start faster in this Fight, he cannot wait that his "engine" is warm enough to start in the 4- 5th round, no in this Fight he must start direct, or he he loss this Fight very close,

Direll is how a Bunny, impossible to catch and to place him in the corner for cominations.

Thats the big Joker for Direll, Abraham needs in every Fight 3 - 4 rounds to come into the Fight.

Direll start fast and attack, go away and attack absolut fast, and you can win this Fight.

But have Direll the power for 12 rounds to fight this Fight style?

And let us don't forget, Abraham is an world class Fighter too and clever enough to know what he have to do again this "Speedy Gonzales".

However say what you say, I say:

Abragam vs. Direll : Direll SD (!)

Post Re: Super Six / First round of the preliminary round
Many fans are very high on Ward after his dismantling of Kessler, but Kessler has always been a strictly basic fighter. Kessler is about as good a basic fighter as you can get, don't get me wrong, but he's always going to have trouble with fighters who are slick, who fight dirty or are just plain awkward. He admitted himself not only after this last fight, but after Calzaghe as well, that "his style was just ruined." I don't believe Kessler deserved his "favorite to win it all" status before the tourney.

For this reason I think King Arthur, not Ward, is the favorite. I cannot see any other way that Abraham does not make it into the second round. Even if Dirrell manages to outbox him over 12 rounds, which I'm skeptical of, I don't see any way that Froch vs Abraham doesn't end in a KO loss for Froch. Outboxing Abraham seems to be the only way for these guys to beat him, since as the first Miranda fight showed, Abraham is a tank of a man that is ridiculously tough to put down.
