The Hitman (Hearns, not Hatton) to Fight Again?

Post The Hitman (Hearns, not Hatton) to Fight Again?
Thomas Hearns:

"It's got to happen to complete my career... have one final title fight", in a recent interview.

Image

He'd like to have Emmanuel Steward in his corner, but Manny doesn't want Tommy to ever step foot in the ring again. Hearns says with or without Emmanuel he wants that one big final fight.

My question is, against who?

The Motor City Cobra never fully retired. He fought in
1992 and lost to Iran Barkley
1993
1994
1995
1996
1997
1998
1999 for the IBO Cruiserweight title, and won
2000 he lost it to Uriah Grant
Here was the retirement for Tommy Hearns as he stayed out of the ring until
2005 when he KOd John Long in 9 rounds
2006 when he KO'dShannon Landberg in 10 rounds
Now he's been gone for three years and is again talking comeback...

In 2009 will the original "Hitman" come back to play? He's supposedly looking for a title match, but there's no way for that is there?
In 2005 and 2006, Hearns lost 14 pounds and fought at 177. He'd be looking for a fight at either Light Heavyweight or Cruiserweight then.

So then, is there a weak enough belt holder that Tommy could take?
And if he took a tune up fight first, who should it be to actually get in the rankings?
Or what about another Fenech/Nelson type bout - against Leonard, Duran, or Hagler?

Its sad to see a legend like Tommy still wanting to fight. Hopefully he won't fight again but something tells me he probably will.

I hope this isnt true but i feel a bit sorry for some of these great old fighters.

They win some amazing fights and are so famous and everywhere they go it must be "hey champ" from everyone.

Then in retirement they probably sit at home, look at the old belts, miss the adulation and probably think, i could still do this.

Funny thing Hearns is obviously shot but can still beat low level opposition becuase he was just that good in his prime.

He should stay retired, it's hard for me to understand anything he says anymore.

Tommy is one of my favorite fighters of all time, but he really needs to give it up. I don't think we'll be seeing Manny Steward in his corner should he fight again. I don't think there is a titlist at LHW or cruiser that he could just steamroll for a belt. He should just be happy in retirement and trying to help put the spotlight on his son Ronald Hearns.

Hearns reappears every few years to beat down on somebody of club status, kind of looking still formidable. Thing is aside from being long since "done", his name still caries weight, mystique. Somebody will possibly market him towards something....but why do I think that if this all came to pass it might very well be against Roy Jones JR?

Just finished reading the book Four Kings and I for one hope that Hearns stays retired. He was an awesome fighter who achieved loads and will be remembered in some of the great fights of the era.

What will he prove by coming back.
