WBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has set a deadline date of March 21 to reach a deal with David Haye. Their fight would take place on June 20 in Germany. Over the last few months, the sides can't seem to reach an agreement and problems continue to come up. Klitschko's side will continue to negotiate until next weekend.

Post Re: Wladimir Klitschko Gives David Haye a March 21 Deadline
Haye prepared to fight Klitschko in Germany
February 16 2009

Former world cruiserweight champion David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye has offered to box in Germany on a K2 Promotions show in order to revive negotiations for a summer showdown with WBO and IBF world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Originally scheduled to take place on June 20 at Stamford Bridge in London, Haye’s eagerly anticipated duel with Klitschko has hit a series of snags in recent weeks, and now appears on the brink of collapse.

Haye’s trainer and manager Adam Booth is willing to sacrifice home territory in the hope of kick-starting the most important and exciting heavyweight contest in years.

“I want to make this absolutely clear, because unfortunately the KMG manager, Bernd Bonte, seems to be taking things too personally and trying to confuse the issue,” begun Booth. “The one-sided interview he did with biased keyboard warrior Dan Rafael (ESPN.com) – a man who has shown a longstanding dislike for David Haye - has distorted some of the facts.

“David will fight Wladimir anywhere they choose, and give them the two rematch options they have requested.

“In regards to the rematches clause, I am baffled as to why Bonte seems to have forgotten our last conversation about this. We said they could have the two rematches they wanted, which effectively means David’s next three fights could be in Germany against either Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko.

“What they’re also demanding is that if David were to win against Wladimir and then have a mandatory challenger obligation (non-Klitschko) he would have to immediately vacate the title he won from Wladimir. This would mean David could win three fights against the Klitschko brothers and still not be in a position to officially call himself heavyweight champion of the world at the end of it.”

Booth continued: “They (the Klitschkos) would make exactly the same money in Germany as they would in England because we have dropped our figure to go to Germany. If they take a proposed fight with Chris Arreola, they will make substantially less. So people can now work this out for themselves.

“The original deal to co-promote the event would never work because of unacceptable terms. However, we’re willing to sacrifice a little on our side just to get this fight made.

“David doesn’t want to dodge Wladimir and just pick and choose his way through boring, fringe contenders. He wants to fight the best and restore some excitement to the heavyweight division. We only hope Wladimir feels the same way.”

As I see it, Haye hasn't earned his shot at a heavyweight title. Things being what they are, he shouldn't even be at the table.....and "both" sides are holding it up?

If you ask me, Haye....if he REALLY wanted it....would concede on the demands.

This isn't really a "Wladimir" thing.

Lots of challengers never earned their shots: Pete Rademacher and Leon Spinks come to mind.

Ih he really wants the fight ot happen he should beat the numebr 1 contender then they would have to fight him or vacate. Too much time wasted in the boardroom for my liking from David and eventually this will start to affect his training and performances!!

Undisputed champions moving up a division are treated a bit better than your regular contender dont forget. Its a bit like saying why did Mayweather get a shot at the Lightweight title in his first bout.. Well, because he was the super-featherweight champ. I think being a champ a division down gives you more right to challenge for a title than any other fringe contender, especially when the landscape is as barren as the heavyweight division appears to be.

The question is what if David Haye wins? How long must we wait for him to fight, THEN?
He needs to get his butt in the ring. Period.
Enough smack talk, he's really not that good at it.
Enough negotiations, he's clearly not good at that either.
Enough fighting bums like Barret.
Enough avoiding the top guys. I know he's chasing THE top guy, but it's really only for the belt and the money. He did the same thing at cruiserweight. As soon as he was able to capture his belt he fought for cash. I'm not trying to say Enzo looked like a pushover at the time - though he does now - but it's the fact that Haye avoided most of the real top contenders at cruiserweight. Cunningham? Flores? Adamek? Bell? G. Jones? Credit for Fragomeni, but that's it. Now he'd trying to do the same thing at heavyweight. He wants a belt against Wlad, because way back when Haye moved up, Wlad was looking bad against Sultan and againt Tony Thompson. Haye thought he'd have an easy fight of it so Wlad was his target. That's what pisses me off about Haye, he only wants soft targets and will sit around doing shite until he gets them. Screw that!

He's not worthy!
If he actually wins, I'll give odds on him taking maybe one more big fight against Vitali before he retires permanantly. Just for the cash. David Haye is certainly not the savior of the heavyweight division. Boooo! Hisss! And other such degredations! What kind of fighter doesn't fight??!!

I don't know why but something tells me you don't like David Haye.

Plus at cruiser he beat Mormeck in his own backyard, yes Mormeck was not in his prime but it was still a great result for David. And a lot of fighters these days take the easy route to a World title, one negative thing about so many titles.

Yes I agree that David does himself no favours with his mouth but I think he was just trying to get the fight to happen, rightly or wrongly.

The easiest way for David to do his talking is in the ring, and he has always said he will retire early, whether he is the saviour of the heavyweight scene or not he has clearly brought a bit of excitement to it.

If the Klitschko fight doesnt come off, i hope he jumps straight into a fight against a good strong fighter like Chris Arreola, and the sooner the better, as good performances keep him in the publics eye
