I think Tommy would have knocked Golota out. Andrew had talent, but was a real head case and didn't like getting hit. Tommy would have hit him, and hard.

Then again, I remember the Morrison-Bentt fight.

Great match up Ghoster.

Golota never did what he was capable of. Bowe was slightly past it but Golota really did box brilliantly in their 2 fights until recklessly getting himself dq'd. Also it seems strange now but a lot of people tipped Golota to beat Lewis but he just froze on the night and Lennox destroyed him.

As for Morrison, well looked great at times and awful at others. Good power, decent infighter but had very limited boxing skills.

I think i would go for an up for it Golota cutting down The Duke in about 8 rounds but with Golota you never know.

Golota, if they were both in top shape, physically and mentally. Morrison was strong but he couldn´t match Golota skillwise.

Golota - as long as he could get the jab going and hold it together mentally-

so I guess that means a Morrison KO - early

Interesting matchup. Like most everyone else, if Golota is on, then he is as talented as any heavyweight in the past 20 years. But that's a big if. That being said, Tommy wins by 8th round KO.

Post Re: Primes--Tommy Morrison vs. Andrew Golota
Man if both guys were really feelin it this would be quite a rumble...
I think Golota was actually a little stronger mentally WHEN HE WAS ON. I think he would outpower Morrison and would out-mentalize him too. Not a word, I know, but I don't want to say that he'd out think Tommy but moreso that he'd be more mentally intense than Tommy. So for the early rounds I see some good trading with Tommy coming forward as often as he got pushed back, a la Foreman... But if Andrew were in his prime I think he'd just keep coming and eventually Tommy would start feeling overwhelmed.
Golota could just be so stonefaced. And if Tommy hits him with a big shot he's looking for evidence of harm. Andrew wouldn't show any and I think that would get under Morrison's skin.
I see either a split decision going for Golota or an 11th/12th round stoppage as Tommy slips once and it's called a knockdown - he then gets frustrated and tries to make up the point and actually gets hurt from some brutal shots inside by Golota, prompting the ref to stop it.
However... this fight would almost definitely result in a rematch. And there's no way Golota could maintain his performance level and I see Morrison fighting smarter, getting in and out, building a 7 or 8 round lead then clinching and jabbing and ducking to a 12 round decision.
The rubber fight would be put off for a couple years. Tommy would get a shot at Holyfield and be KOd in 7. Golota would cream Ray Mercer but get a detached retina for his trouble. The final in the trilogy would be tentative at first. Both guys would have a gameplan of taking the other to the late rounds and drowning him so the first 4 rounds would be a disappointement. I think they'd open up a bit 5-8 and we'd get flashes of brilliance. Morrison would go down more from muscle memory than a hard shot. But he'd turn around and outwork Andrew to make it a 9-9 round with the announcers whooping and hollering. Rounds 8-10 would be all inside. They'd be too tired to move too much around and would lean on each other then explode with sudden uppercuts and cracking body shots. There would be an unintentional headbutt and Tommy rushes inside, cuts on Golota's eye and lip. Tommy would come on strong at the finish from the sight of blood and get some good highlight film work... No way Golota goes down for the count. But he'll look ready to at the final bell and will be hanging his head at the finish. Tommy will look good BUT! I see the judges giving it to Golota anyway in a controversial decision with two of them unsanctioned officials with only 1 &1/2 title fights judged between them.
Then the real fight would begin as the Bank Atlantic center erupts in riots and someone from Morrison's camp hits Golota with a water bottle. Larry Merchant slides a chair into the ring while verbally professing what a terrible sight this all was and Golota is caught on film waving his stool at a camerman. After the official investigation the fight is ruled a no contest.
The fourth fight is currently scheduled for September of 2009...

But I digress.

Post Re: Primes--Tommy Morrison vs. Andrew Golota
Golota had the skills and attributes to become the heavyweight champion but mentally he was less than grounded when the going got tough. Sometimes he unravelled even before he enetered the ring, depending on the opponent. This to me suggests that the "back door" into his head was perpetually "unlocked". The right mind-sucker could convince him to lose, far in advance of the first bell, as evidenced by Lennox Lewis back in 1997.

Morrison, for his part, was a terrific three or four round fighter with one of the best left hooks I have ever seen, The knock on Tommy was his prep, chin and stamina...but he knew how to tear them up even if his gas tank was a little small.

Golota should be able to win this with his left jab alone. Andrew's power would aso be more than enough to dispose of Morrison, if properly delivered.

Thing is, Golota would lose BIG if they ever fought.

Morrison would start very fast, and given Golota's penchant for losing by ambush in the first round, odds are high he'd be decked seconds in such a bout.

If somehow that didn't happen, and Andrew found a way to hurt or even drop Morrison, expect Morrison to turn it all around the way he did with Ruddock. Golota was a lousy finisher and sloppy enough so that Morrison would land something desperate.

I'd bet the farm on Morrison in this one, and my over and under would be two rounds.

Depends what variants we look at. The Bowe version of Golota takes Duke out clean. The Lewis Golota version gets taken out like a sitting duck by the Duke.

BS - You make a compelling observation. My question is, though - what prompted Golota to go from confident warrior with Bowe right to fear-frozen deer in the headlights for Lewis? Literally it happened fight to fight.
