Tyson - Douglas
World heavyweight championship
10th round
On February 11, 1990, in the Korakuen Tokyo Dome, the undisputed heavyweight king Mike Tyson defends his world title for the tenth time before his compatriot James Douglas, the most insignificant of his challengers ...
But the defending champion facing serious personal problems does not appear the best for this fight where he puts his unbeaten record at stake
After many failed attempts, Don King has finally got an exclusive on fighting Mike Tyson. He then organized a defense with another of his protégés: James "Buster" Douglas. Born April 17, 1960, an obscure boxer Columbus began his career in 1981. Technically gifted, but lifestyle, he has already had four setbacks in 33 fights and suffered a KO in his unique global opportunity.
No real reference, no one gives it a chance. King was forced to sell the "butcher programmed" to Japanese. The only question that the 100 journalists is how many minutes will this poor guy ...

Yet for months, we know that the champion is in a

major existential crisis. The death of Jim Jacobs and after his painful fight with Kevin Rooney, the power struggles between King and Cayton lead to the eviction of the last member of the team set up by Cus D'Amato.
His private life explodes. The accusasions he is the target during its tumultuous separation from his wife Robin Givens affect them deeply. Distraught, Tyson wants as his former family, distilling their venom, at that press echoes of so many stains. Victim of his own image, it has become more confident person. Dragged through the mud, destabilized, it does not show the best for this fight.
But hopefully Douglas? He too has experienced in recent months as many personal troubles. However, unlike Tyson, he focused on his preparation as an escape from his troubles. Provided in full when weighing 105 pounds he accuses. His usual few beads gave way to a muscle in line with its position as the challenger.
Arrived with a player on the ears, Tyson admits 100 pounds. The largest weight for three years. If the condition of "Buster" surprise, his mental approach even more surprises. Calm and smiling at the man who scares as he can even say: "I came to Japan to fight Tyson before the deadline. I fixed it and I saw a little man. "

Douglas surprising that always seems so serene when face to face. Early trade, the fear has not yet installed it. With its direct left and right a few precise, it is mounted between the ropes to make the move to the bottom. End of first round: the challenger is still standing. In the next round, yet he places his jabs and uppercuts few rights against. Tyson does not use his explosive combinations. The machine seems jammed. He tries to throw his bombs,
but can not move on. Its lack of accuracy and timing are evident. Douglas has held three rounds! A feat, but it does not seem to satisfy. Encouraged by his work, he keeps going and won to everyone's amazement the two following rounds. Unable to change of pace, Tyson is unrecognizable. Nothing goes as planned for him little dodges, no blockages, cash it all. His left eye is swollen. His corner, who did not expect this possibility does not seem equipped to treat (no ice or iron plate).
In the sixth round, Tyson has only one slot as eye. But he can not lose, it's impossible. Everyone is waiting for his reaction. Yet the rounds and are very similar. A drifting, pushed, Tyson delivers a survival reflex: a great uppercut! His opponent is found electrocuted on the mat. But he gets up to 5 seconds from the end of round. The referee Octavio Meyran disturbed by the suddenness of the coup, has not kept count of the timer Japanese Riichi Hirano. The account seems to have exceeded 10 seconds!

After a minute of rest, Douglas recovered and resumed the initiative. Tired, Tyson seems distraught. Powerless, its limits are displayed in seconds. In the 10th round, Douglas launched nine missiles chained. All reach their target and Tyson collapses! The referee on behalf of Mexico slowly. The scene is pathetic: Tyson on all fours, groping right fist protects seeks his teeth he just spit. "Mike Tyson KO!". Douglas made leaps in the center of the ring! The unthinkable, the impossible happened. Undaunted by his reputation, "Buster" has shown a boldness that surprised the world. He writes

one of the finest, perhaps the most dramatic surprise in the history of boxing.

By a shameful maneuver corridor, supported by his servants (Jose Sulaiman and Gilberto Mendoza, president of the WBC and WBA), Don King is trying to change the result by claiming that Douglas fired the benefit of an error arbitration: a long counts as Demspey in September 1927 against Tunney. The video confirms that Tyson has indeed sent Douglas to the ground for 13 seconds. The manager of Douglas, Peyton Cher, powerless witness to the astounding statements of the two federations are given a few days to decide the outcome. Robert Lee, president of the IBF (not yet recognized in Japan), is common sense in establishing Douglas as the champion immediately. The next day following the WBA IBF. A few hours later, the WBC avoids the ridiculous ... Douglas is the new unified champion.

Post Re: Tyson - Douglas
Tyson - Douglas
Championnat du monde des lourds
10e round

Douglas a tenu trois rounds !
