Window World Wheeling Wv – What’s great about Wheeling? If you ask the mayor, residents and visitors, you will get the same answer: He is friendly. Known as the Friendly City, Wheeling may feel like a world away from the rest of the state, but this riverfront neighborhood is rich in West Virginia history. Once a rough town filled with rough people, Wheeling has evolved into a safe, vibrant place that combines the best parts of a big city and a small town.
Mayor Glenn Elliott believes Wheeling offers an exceptional quality of life. “What other city of 27,000 can boast world-class music, a professional sports team, a 1,600-acre municipal park and resort, and countless examples of Victorian commercial and residential architecture?” he said. “When you factor in our location on Interstate 70 and the Ohio River along with our proximity to Pittsburgh International Airport, there are many reasons to make Wheeling one of our homes.”

Choose from a number of galleries and museums that display glass, toys, trains and airports, among other things. Catch a show or a performance by the Wheeling Symphony Society at the Capitol Theatre. Wheeling’s Heritage Port, along the Ohio River, hosts food festivals, vintage boat races, a summer concert series and BluesFest.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of opportunities to move. Trail fans have easy access to the Ohio River and Wheeling Creek trails. The Wheeling Creek Water Trail runs along Ohio County, through rural farmland to the mouth of the Ohio River in downtown Wheeling. It is a popular spot for tubing, fishing and boating. Kayakers can rent a boat from the outfitter or bring their own and paddle with the local kayak club.
One of Wheeling’s crown jewels is the 2,000-acre Oglebay Park, the nation’s only privately owned municipal park. Guests have access to golf, tennis, swimming, skiing and cycling. A quarter mile of trails, both paved and wooded, weave through Oglebay past a garden center and manor museum.
Wheeling likes to share the spotlight with nearby towns and attractions. Part of the appeal lies in its central location along Interstate 70. Wheeling is an hour from Pittsburgh and Morgantown, two from Columbus and three from Cleveland and Cincinnati. Residents travel to these cities for business, entertainment and higher education, then return home to the warmth and familiarity of a small town.

It’s also a perfect hub for fun day trips. Tomlinson Run State Park in nearby Weirton is a short drive, and state parks such as Cathedral, Blackwater Falls and Valley Falls only take a few hours to reach. Five ski resorts and two world-class whitewater rivers are within one hundred miles.
Wheeling is a great place to raise a family. Most areas have newly updated playgrounds, and residential areas thrive on communal climbing. Thanks to the low crime rate throughout the state, residents feel comfortable going outside.
Students also find benefits. Ohio State is among the top three public school districts in the state and has one of the highest concentrations of highly ranked public schools. Fourteen public schools serve 5,300 students in Ohio County, and 98% of Ohio County students’ reading and math scores are above average, as is the disparity in race and ethnicity. Wheeling also has several top private schools and two excellent high schools: Linsly School and Wheeling Central Catholic High School.
Students seeking higher education have many choices. Wheeling is home to West Virginia Northern Community College; 86% of students remain in society after graduation. Those looking for a four-year degree can look to Wheeling College and Western Independence College. The latter is a four-year public university offering undergraduate, graduate and professional education. Beyond Wheeling, any student looking for more freedom can choose from 15 colleges and universities within a two-hour drive.

While it’s no secret that West Virginia is losing population, Wheeling’s recovery has begun. The median household income is increasing, as are property values. Major employers such as the law firm of Orrick, Herrington Sutcliffe and Williams Lea Tag as well as the West Virginia Health System have moved to the city, taking jobs with them. The number of shops, restaurants and bars is constantly increasing, and with them has come a revitalized nightlife.
“While the story of the latter half of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st has been one of contraction and industrial decline, Wheeling is poised to see its first population growth in 100 years in the next decade,” said Mayor Elliot. “In the past few years alone, more than $300 million in public funds have been invested in our roads, local schools and our underground infrastructure, while the private sector is responding with tens of millions of dollars invested in revitalizing downtown. The city has prioritized restoring downtown Wheeling as a destination, and it pays off. Stay tuned!”

What’s Happening In The World Is Out Of Your Control. These 7 Strategies Will Help You Feel Better.
Factory Market is a landmark Wheeling market older than West Virginia itself. It’s a great place to go and spend the afternoon wandering from store to store, getting treats like homemade cookies and ice cream, and eating a famous fish sandwich from Coleman’s Fish Market. Ryan tried it and said it was definitely worth the experience! Central Market has many shops with homemade gifts, art and jewelry. And along with the market, you’ll find many pet shops and boutiques and some unique boutiques, making the entire neighborhood a must-stop during your visit to Wheeling.
Good Mansion Wines is a charming wine shop that also has a bakery and deli in the back. Be sure to get the “Le Seine” sandwich. It’s one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had! The resident pastry chef is from Paris, so you know everything will be authentic and delicious.
This is probably one of the most picturesque places in Wheeling. There is a water park along the Ohio River where you can enjoy an evening trip as a family. It’s a great place to watch the sunset behind the trees and watch the water and sky change colors. You can also enjoy the sunset from the suspension bridge, which can be seen from Port Heritage. It crosses the Ohio River and is the longest suspension bridge in the world at one point.
The Victoria Theater is the oldest theater in West Virginia. We went to a Lip Sync Battle live event here and it was one of those things that made us feel like we were part of a small town TV show. It’s set up just like the Lip Sync Battle show, but a small town version. Everyone from the local sheriff and news anchor to the high school band and local dance troupe are involved in the strategic game of synchronicity. Everyone really went all out and you could tell they had been practicing for a while. It was very entertaining and fun to see how the whole community came together to participate and enjoy a fun night together.

We absolutely loved our food at Elle and Jack. Elle and Jack’s is one of Wheeling’s newest restaurants and it certainly does not disappoint! It has a great atmosphere and the cauliflower and gnocchi are really delicious! It is a very nice place to sit and enjoy a meal during your stay in Wheeling. We definitely recommend adding Elle and Jack to your itinerary
