We all know that students are the future. They are the ones who will bring the innovations of tomorrow. With that goal, Microsoft wants to help them achieve more, so we’re making free certifications and resources for all eligible students to learn, prepare, and become certified, starting with basic certifications. The program includes the following certification exams
If you are interested or know a student who could benefit from this, please pass it along. You can find more details in the next article.
Are you struggling to see what’s going on around you? Do you need access to multiple tools and reports to gain insight into your device’s behavior and functionality? If so, the new endpoint reporting capabilities in the Microsoft 365 Defender portal are for you. These capabilities include new reports found on the Reports page in the Endpoints node of the Microsoft 365 Defender portal:
Firewall Cant Be Turned On (error 0x800706d9)
In this day and age of constant vigilance against attacks and intrusions, it’s important to know what’s going on. The Device Control report is designed to show the functionality and usage of external devices.
Firewall Report allows administrators to view host firewall reports in the Microsoft 365 Defender portal. This feature allows you to view Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022 firewall reporting from a central location.
This is a public paradigm, however, as more ITPros and operations people want to be able to deploy and manage applications and microservices using serverless containers. Gaining insight into these apps has been a challenge, but now Azure Monitor provides visibility into the activity of running containerized apps with support for metrics and alerts.
You can use Metrics Explorer to see the CPU, memory, network activity, and requests your container apps are using, set alerts on metric thresholds, or use log analytics queries.

This is also a preview. However, since many applications log information in text files instead of standard log services like Windows Event, I’ve been asked many times (more than I can count) about the process of getting non-standard logs into Log Analytics, so we included it. log or syslog.
It easily increases the visibility you need into the applications you trust to run. I highly suggest you review how to capture text and IIS logs with Azure Monitor Agent
Since we mentioned Azure Monitor quite a bit this week, we thought it would be a good idea to cover AZ-305: Design Identity, Governance and Monitoring Solutions.
It is a way of learning as opposed to a single module. This is very important and it will help you prepare for the AZ-305 exam: Designing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions.

Windows 10 comes with several security features to protect your device and data from unauthorized access, malware, and other attacks, including a powerful built-in firewall called Microsoft Defender Firewall.
Although Microsoft Defender Firewall does a pretty good job of managing which applications and features are allowed to connect on the network, sometimes you need to manually allow or deny an app.
In this guide, you will learn the steps to allow or deny app access through firewall in Windows 10.
The Windows Defender Firewall Service Refuses To Start
If you want to block an app through the firewall, you can follow the instructions described above, but in step 5, make sure you clear the check mark for the app or function you want to deny access to the network.
This guide focuses on the Windows 10 firewall, but if you have another security solution, be sure to check your vendor’s support website for specific instructions.

The Information Age began in the mid-20th century, heralding the shift from traditional industry to an information technology (IT)-based economy. But the industry is not the only one to benefit from this change. Today, 63% of the world has access to the Internet, with more people joining the World Wide Web every day.
Unfortunately, not everyone involved has honest intentions, and we’re not even talking about internet trolls. We are talking about cyber criminals, often called hackers.
Microsoft designed and developed Windows Firewall to protect computers from such threats. But even today, most users are not aware of its existence or exact purpose. Today we’ll explain a bit about the inner workings and discuss how and why you can turn it off in some cases.
As the name suggests, Windows Firewall is a firewall created by Microsoft and integrated into its operating system (OS). Like any other firewall, its purpose is to monitor network traffic for any potentially malicious data packets or attempts to infiltrate the local network.
How To Enable Network Access For The Duet App In Windows 10 Firewall Settings
It works by using a set of rules that apply to both incoming and outgoing traffic. The rules depend on the profile we set for the network we are connected to. It will be:
Windows Firewall is configured to trust known sources based on profile rules and only prompts for user input when required by a profile setting.
There are times when you want to turn off Windows Firewall or allow certain programs to access the network. Both can be configured in the firewall settings in Windows Defender Settings in Control Panel, but you can only change them if you’re a PC administrator. We will go into more detail about this later in the article.
Originally called Internet Connection Firewall, it was first released in 2001 with the Windows XP operating system. This Microsoft firewall is disabled by default due to backward compatibility issues, and the controls are buried in a network configuration screen that most users never open.
How To Block A Program In Firewall Windows 10 (3 Methods)
After the Blaster and Saucer worm attacks in 2003 and 2004, Microsoft was criticized for not proactively protecting its users from threats. The critics were unfounded, as Microsoft released patches for the attacks to address the remote procedure call (RPC) Windows service vulnerability used by the attackers. However, as is often the case, many people neglect to update their systems.
In August 2004, Microsoft released Windows XP SP2 with a new and improved firewall, now called Windows Firewall, set by default. Since then, the company has continued to grow and develop.
Windows Firewall should only be disabled if you have another firewall enabled. Having two working on your PC at the same time doesn’t add any additional protection, as they only interfere with each other. That said, it is possible to set up two firewalls on the same network.
To disable Windows Firewall, go to the Start menu and enter Windows Defender Firewall. Go to “Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off” in the new window. You can only do this if you are a PC administrator. Alternatively, you can find the Windows Defender Firewall settings in the Control Panel menu, under the System and Security tab of the Control Panel menu.
